Five Figs

Banner adopted from the artist’s mother’s pencil drawing
Football Field in Harmonie Park, Antwerp

The drawing depicts five figs the mother harvested from a tree she and her daughter planted together on their rooftop garden, along with a prose:

Even under harsh conditions, with genuine care, patience, and persistence, one’s efforts can come into fruition.

The original drawing is done on the back of a traditional zither music sheet. Notations from the music on the reverse side form a ghostly watermark-like imagery. It is not until much later that the mother and daughter realized that the music is of a Taiwanese folk song ‘Taiwan is Good,’ praising the nation’s land and people.
