"There was a pomegranate tree in the yard when I was young. It had been there since I could remember. The tree would blossom right before lunar New Year. We knew by the bright, orange buds: the year is coming.

At some point, grownups in the house decided to cut down the tree. It was replaced by osmanthus. The smell was nice and elegant. But I’ve always missed the year-summoning pomegranate tree."
